In Black Poem by Randy McClave

In Black

Today I wear black
Removed from the mourners rack,
I wear black because I'm mourning
Started on November morning.
I'm mourning the loss of unity and hope
To which we the citizens of the U.S must now cope,
The opportunity to show ourselves and the world that we can be better
Now unto truth, honesty and care we will now be a debtor.
As I have thought and believed from day one
All that we once were is now all gone
Instead of being better citizens of the world,
A different flag will now have unfurled.
Mourning the fact that instead of embracing that opportunity
We now show the world, and our children of non unity,
And to the winners celebration
We were not ready or willing to grow as a great nation.
We now will prefer to embrace old hate and outdated ways
And historic divisions and racism and bigotry in the coming days,
I mourn because the damage that is to come will not end in four years
But, will remain as a stain on our country long after many tears.
Many lives that will be impacted, and forever changed
They will not be repaired, caused by the greedy and the deranged,
The examples shown to our children cannot be unseen
As the actions will be monstrous and obscene.
I mourn because my heart breaks for what our country could have been
And what it will now be from a law from the strike of a pen,
The unseen child they say they will protect
But, the seen child they will now neglect.
