In Public Interest Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

In Public Interest

In public interest

What poets are supposed to perform?
Sit quiet and inform
The countrymen about helplessness
That no means are available to face?

Has he to write about nature?
Garden, moon and flowers
He has something more to devote
And plainly state

The terrorists are striking
Take the country at breaking point
Create fears in the minds of people
Create disharmony and foment the trouble

The poets are not weak
They can speak
Through powerful pen
As most striking weapon

If they prefer to be honest
And act in the best public interest
He can present it with appeal to masses
They can understand and need no classes
