In Remembrance Of... Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

In Remembrance Of...

In remembrance of...
All that could have been.
If I had listened to pay attention.
I can only thank God that I didn't.
And not to do this to defy anyone.
But to know with conviction.
I had to prove what I wanted to do,
Was not a whim.
Since if it was,
Those naysayers and doubters...
I would hear for many years,
Call me lazy, foolish and stupid.
Are now heard to say,
"Why couldn't I live my life...
Doing dumb things?
Just to prove today,
Conformity and all its craze.
Is acceptable.
And a normal way to live,
What has become today...
Obviously dysfunctional."

So refreshing it is to know,
Those today who believed themselves normal.
Yesterday.
Can not pretend,
Being out of their minds...
Is being envied.
And,
No one I know of has admitted,
Or confessed openly.
Of being jealous of anyone these days,
Proving to show they are crazed.

I'll take peace of mind and solitude.
To know anytime where to find it found.
