Lonely life you have given me
Why you kept me in captivity
You wrenched me from the jungle
Branches of pines and cedars I miss
I watch my flockmates whirling in the sky
Lovely to see them flying in unison
Singing and perching on the trees
Weaving nest with grass and twigs
And popping food into little ones beaks
You look at the cage and admire my beauty
You gave me bars only to bite
No space to spread my little wings
And no river banks to preen
With pleasure you feed me seeds and water
But you never knew I enjoy berries and worms
Morning you open eyes with my squeaks
And you love to hear me singing
You never knew it's the cry for my love mate
Set me free let me fly
Wish to fly miles and Miles.
I think you are like that caged Bird. The expression emanates from the inner recesses of your heart. Well done!
I wish to fly miles and miles... can this wish be fulfilled? Hope, the poetess can materialize her dream. Beautiful expression. Loved this poem.
'Set me free let me fly'....................... This is the soulful cry of every caged bird! The longing of a bird to fly free in the vast sky is given expression beautifully in this poem!

Rini, Have you read the poems of Balaamani Amma and Kamala Das? If not, please get them and start reading.. Balaamani Amma wrote poems in Malayalam. Kamala Das wrote her poems mostly in English, though her fiction- writings were in Malayalam. Please do read them...
Sure I will get them, reading malayalam is a bit difficult as I haven't learned, but can manage.
