In Time Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

In Time

In time.
Eyes will open wider.
And those accustomed to rolling them,
Will begin to notice...
How clear things become.
When the eyes remain focused.

In time.
Many will find the mind to use,
Can be a wonderful purpose to discover.
Thinking independently to comprehend.
And understand to realize,
This process requires thought.
Can bring one to tears.
The World becomes a different place.

In time.
Many will connect gossiping about others,
To lies told, innuendos and backstabbing.
Those who call themselves Christians,
Who testify on Sundays looking pitiful.
Then shout about being victimized.
With hands raised praising God.
Pray for them.
Often they are the culprits.
And if seen bringing a pound cake,
For a church bake sale.
Prepare to hear 'something' freshly cooked up.

In time.
People will discover,
Showing interest and respect to others.
To then say, "I love you" is not a gay thing.
It's a human thing.
And something done that is not abnormal.
Dysfunctional or unnatural.
Nor a sign of weakness.
And hugging someone of the same sex,
Is okay.
This kind of contact,
Should not cause whispers to start.
Although,
Depending on the size of the town.
And awareness of the people,
To whisper with hand placed up to the mouth...
Is a custom.

In time.
Many will awaken.
Finding themselves to have aged.
Yet still reacting like children.
And playing petty childish games.
Then to start arguments.
In time.
It will dawn on many.
Ignorance to encourage and keep nourished,
Is not a virtue.
Only if one is under a tent.
Dressed and paid to be a clown.
This,
Many in time will call an exception.
And not an act of 'being down to Earth'.
