Incoherently Speaking Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Incoherently Speaking

Incoherently speaking.
Seems today the only way,
To get anyone to listen.
In sound bites and cheap shots to take.
With it to have believed,
Some sense is being made.

And the more nonsense,
Of this to accept.
More common this becomes.
As the only way communication is done.
Whether selected to fake this or not.
Still heads will nod in agreement.
To whatever is said to avoid the topic.

"That speech left me breathless.
Every nuance of it deserved applause.
And the emphasis placed,
On race and economics.
And the progress made on prosperity.
To create a diverse purpose to leave,
Why a pledging to a flag.
Is a way to honor the deeds,
Of Betsy Ross.
And her family's contribution,
To the entertainment industry.
Are facts I will remember.
For the rest of my life.
Oh!
I can not understand,
Why we, as a people...
Remain so divided."
