India's Independence Day 2023- Cherish The Harmony Of Our Nation Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

On this magnanimous Independence day
let us wake up to the realization of a reality
that or country is enjoying its freedom
from the British Raj and their apathy
because of Mohandas Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru;
and also due to Subash Chandra Bose
and many other freedom fighters who persistently
sought freedom by following the non-violent movement
rather than choosing war to gain our independence
and making our country free from the British Rule.

And as our generations have continued to enjoy
their rights and liberties, their privileges and entitlements
over the years and until this day,
we have to be grateful to all the freedom fighters
and to Nehru and his family
who have sacrificed their lives for India
without any fear or rewards
but it has been a profound dedication by them
that no words can ever describe
how they chose to step in those corridors
of selflessness and commitment
with such paramount and unflinching courage.

Imagine our country if it was still under the British,
would they have allowed anyone to oppose
their domination or their language or their retorts?
why are we forgetting that the great grandfather
of Rahul Gandhi named Nehru endowed our nation
with the glory of liberties and that freedom of speech
is enshrined in our constitution?

So let there be an awakening and an understanding
that as children and students we have always hurled
so many comments at our friends and enemies
but on the national day we have always stood erect
and sang our national anthem in unison
as our national flag got hoisted
thus displaying the power of our patriotism, our unity
and not of our ego or our grudges.

And for a country with millions of people
there exists no better option but to live
with patience and tolerance,
with politics and politicians
and with our past history of Independence
which is so valuable and so respectful to us
as it enables us to recollect and reminiscence
that leaders like Mohandas Gandhi, Jawaharlal
Nehru and Subash Chandra Bose insisted on
our country's independence so that we live freely,
speak freely, worship freely, move freely
and these the chapters of democracy promises
freedom and equality, rights and privileges
which are so vast and they will last forever
in the framework of our generation's endowments.
