Inevitable Fate Poem by Lily Espinosa

Inevitable Fate

Sooner than I care to admit
Life will adopt its hateful glare
Driving us back into the ground.
Things that seemed so exciting
Loose all importance, any place within my life
I loved you and lost you,
Now I can’t keep you,
Things changed me far too much.
My inner being left warped and perverse
It would be unfair to keep you to myself.
The merry little girl you knew got up and flew away,
She realised it was wrong to live this way,
Silly me, I should have listened
But I stayed and bled my tears.
Now my fate grows ever stronger
With no path left to choose.
I struggle for air
In this blurred chaos
As I sink gradually to the bottom.
I see you at the surface,
My lifeline, hope and happiness.
Arms spread wide, inviting me back to comfort,
I could have you to myself
But I realise it can’t be that way.
As you lay behind me, resting not quite sleeping,
Please forgive me for keeping you awake,
And leaving you behind.
While I sit back, and disconnect myself
Your blissful happiness awaits.
In smothering silence
I’ll watch you travel this road,
As I slip back to the start line.
