Interpretation Of Dreams Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Interpretation Of Dreams

Rating: 5.0

Dreams are mysterious and strange.
Unexpectedly, they intrude restful sleep.
What is the significance of their display?
My speculating interpretations take a leap.

Do the spontaneous images have meaning?
Do they predict the future or reflect the past?
Can they determine the rotation of the world?
Is there a guiding light beyond the shadow cast?

Perhaps dreams are a reflection of spent deeds…
Earlier actions can place impressions on the brain.
Later, to resurface from the depths of repression…
Reminding the mind of questions that remain.

Flashing and streaking images with sensations.
Unresolved emotions that can stir inner feeling.
Why can’t I easily explain and/or understand?
I search for the answers, as I stare at the ceiling.

Perhaps dreams reach for expectations in life…
Anticipating something that is only imagined.
Maybe dreams can motivate or simply captivate.
Gradually, roused images are slowly abandoned…

Theresa, your poem stirs up my brain. Just yesterday I was thinking about how much we don't know and understand about nature, ours included. No doubt dreams or dreaming has an explanation, but I would rather think up one that is very imaginative. I finished reading, A Time To Mend, a novel by Angel Hunt. Towards the end of the story, she writes: 'Life is not abut what I do, it's aboaut what I am.' I would like to think of a dream as being - just being in a wonderful way. Of course, that eliminates nightmares.

Great poem! I like how you try to search for an answer in its structure. I wrote a poem that's similar to this called 'The Grandeur of Sleep' that doesn't search for an answer, but that is kind of an overview of dreams. Well worded and memorable! -Michael
