Invested Interests Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Invested Interests

These days we live.
With so many focused,
On entitlements.
And materialism.
Bling and other,
Meaningless things.
As if...
That stays to remain,
The only purpose...
We have been born.
And blessed.
With life to live to us given.

What has happened,
To the having...
Of those invested interests?
Once to have in others.
And their needs.
To show and remain,
Keeping them encouraged.
And feeling worthy.
As we all want and wish to be.
Treated and respected.
By someone who cares,
Thoughtfully.
To know we all,
Are not objects.
But human beings.

For example...
If someone should admit,
A wish to fall in love.
And they had been lonely.
With wishes to meet,
That special one.
Do not dismiss,
Those words to hear heard.

And if...
Hypothetically speaking,
Of course.
You happen to be available.
With this same thought to feel.
And this person to have met,
Continues to say...
They have money too!
Looking for someone,
To share their wealth.
With a spending it endlessly!
Stay calm.
No broad smiles.
Or an eyebrow to raise.
Invest your interests,
Immediately!
On remaining focused,
On their needs.
Keeping them encouraged.
And feeling worthy.

Since...
Someone like this,
Has been placed...
In your presence.
For a reason not to question.

In situations like this...
If you see something,
Keep it to yourself.
And let the meaning,
Of true love...
Rekindle your memories.
Gently,
Take deep breaths.
Quietly.
No panting.
Or noticeable,
Nervous twitching.
Relax.

'You know,
Money to have it...
Isn't everything.'

'So long it has taken me,
To find that out.'

'And...
So very long it has taken me,
To discover...
How valuable it is,
To keep invested interests...
In the needs of others.'

'God works,
In the most mysterious...
Of unexpected ways.'

'Tell me about it.
I guess that is why,
They come unexpected.
Mysteriously.
Especially these days.
When so many remain,
Focused on materialism.
Impressions to make.
And entitlements! '

'Trust me.
Eventually...
That can get boring.'

'I'm willing,
To have you bore me.
For as long as you want.'
