Is It Love? ?

Rating: 3.5

(IN RESPONSE TO THE POEM LOVE OR LUST & ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO CLAIM TO BE IN LOVE)

If I had to describe myself as something, it'd be that very exact line: Someone who indulges in excessive sentimentality. I mean, that's me all over without a doubt. Anyone who has been friends(Wilson, Sameer, Ali) with me for a long enough amount of time, will probably have realised this.

It's not just that though. I've always wanted to believe that love works, and that it's all so simple. I'm a sucker for romantic films, where the men make hopelessly romantic and sincere gestures of love, or the people in love suffer for what they feel. It always makes you think that, yeah, maybe love does conquer all.

I've always thought that you'd know when you were in love. It'll just happen, You're in love. Total and utter love.

But recently, I've been thinking - yeeah, thinking - why is it that love is so important? Does it even exist? I mean, yes, when two people care for each other a great deal and would do anything for them, I have just reason to believe that yes, yes it does exist. But WHY? Why do people value it so much? Love makes the world go around. Without love, you've never felt? Without love, you'll never know what true happiness is.

Um, SERIOUSLY?

Who even came up with those ideas. If love is a feeling and emotion, then so is anger and sadness and happiness. Why is it that love is the one that makes the world go around? Would I really prefer to live a poor live with the man I love? Or would I rather have worked hard to get to the place I've always wanted, just to have people telling me that all that.. it's just not important? People, myself particularly included, have always fallen under the dream that love is the cherry on top of the cake, that makes everything wortwhile.

What?

Why is it that people seem to think, no matter what you achieve in life, your life isn't complete without love? Is it that all our successes and cushy cars or enormous sense of well-being, are just rungs on a ladder that leads up to.. you guessed it, love?

Recently, I've been reading a lot of people's blogs and here at PH. Call me creepy, but I have. Just generally to see what some people get up to, and because it's a cure for boredom, if only for an hour. And a lot of these people are in love. I mean, great for them.. I'm not disputing their happiness. But the crap - I'm sorry, I mean, things - that they write is just so.. ridiculous. It's all about someone having your heart, and not being able to breathe when theyre gone.

UM, EXCUSE ME. HOW ARE YOU WRITING THE POEMS AND BLOG ENTRY THEN? THROUGH A MEDIUM?

Call me cynical, but the majority of what they write about is to do with their loved ones. Fair enough, if that's what they write about, seeing as it is their blog. I mean, I write complete and utter shite in my blog, and I can honestly name only 8 people who even know of it.

Anyway, the thing is that most of these people are young adults. Am I saying that young adults don't know anything about love, and are really acting through lust? Partly so. But who am I to judge? I'm freaking 19 years old - I know nothing. And there have been cases when young childhood sweethearts do end up together forever. And, of course, the amount of 'grown' adults that have failed in relationships.. well, it's laughable.

What am I trying to say here? I'm saying that I think it's even sadder when young people fall in love, but then it gets shattered to pieces; our egos are so much more fragile. What worries me even more is that, when I think love, I think forever; forever as in playing stupid board games in a retirement home with your loved one. So, when I think love, I want it to last forever. I want TANGIBLE & MEASURABLE COMMITMENTS AND FULLFILED PROMISES, AND A BRIGHT FUTHER WITH HIM.I WANT HIM TO BE HONEST IN WHAT HE SAYS. BECAUSE I REALLY DON’T WANT JUST HIS WORDS, I WANT HIS ACTION DONE unlike someone here. Do these people know that? Do they, really? Or, maybe that's just my perception on love.

There are so many smart people out here.. I like to think everyone is smart in their own little way. So, why are we, the 'future' playing stupid games of lust and love, and letting it infiltrate every move and every direction we take? I mean, yes, think about love as much as you want? But, seriously, when you could be using that time to do so much more.. it makes me sad

Anyway. I'm not dismissing the idea of love. I like romantic films as much as the next person. But, what I'm saying, is that too many people put too much emphasis on it. Who decided to be Lord of the Universe, and say that?

Am I cynical? Maybe? Am I a romanticist. Maybe. Am.. I just said what was currently on my mind.. Definately. And, that doesn't happen very often.

FEEL FREE TO CONTRADICT.

LOVE is the cherry on top of the ice cream. Your pretty much right in my ways of thinking. To me MOVIES, ADS, MEDIA, etc try to sell you a love image, which ends in pregnancy. If not that AIDS, etc. Love is romantic and GOD is love. Men & women were meant to love for life for stability of family. It's the world full of images after KODAK invented the camera and people made money from PEEP SHOWS to H-WOOD onward today. [stay with the cherry on top of the ice cream ] or try to.POEWHIT

Hi Sweet, to find love we skim our hearts over the open oceans...sometimes they reach the other side...but most of the time only the ripples pass the message to lost loves....sadly the ripples fade after time..so people say....not me...I say open your wings and fly....There's more to be found when its in the open.....Lovely piece of writing...keep expressing

For something that just came off of your mind it is well written. And all I have to say is during your journey in life. You will find both the difference and your own defination of both. Stay true! Sadly through life you won't just find those two things. You will at some point feel much more! You will be angry and you will also have others who have rage against you and much more. You will fall we all fall but it is what and how we pick ourselves up that helps create either the good in us or the bad. I think and this is what I think you have started your journey probably more quicker than others. Your path won't be like the movies! But as long as you keep questioning such as the above you are becoming your own wonderful. Stay with your goal of finding a husband who grows old with you. Since that has changed so much in our world today. Great Job April

Why put love to such limited interpretation as wanting or not wanting a human body.Lust definitly is time bound and needs space for its fullfilment while love is beyond such physical metamorphosis. The dialectics work together but at the end love prevails.
