Island Erosion Poem by Matthew Holloway

Island Erosion

Time passes often unnoticed
seasons change, weather turns
storms rise, swell and fall away
and upon an islands shore
little by little it wears away
soon the broken rock opens up
the roots of tall trees stretching out
like open hands to the vast sea
the beaches shrink away with each tide
little by little, day by month by year
the slow process of disappearance
an island soon to be lost, forgotten
an island, the atoll, a defiant rock
then nothing, consumed by the sea
an island lost through time
