It Is Only Through Form That I Live On Poem by Leslie Alexis

It Is Only Through Form That I Live On

I'm contemplating on form and on meter:
The patterns of poetry confined by guards
that keep watch over those exalted god-
accepted patterned rhymes - o none is sweeter.
Prose has its place, but poetry, through meter,
Survives in hearts, in storms, against all odds.
In the complex conflicts of time, great nods
Hail poetry as sweet…freestyles as bitter.
My heart long for longevity for pages
It pens - that in rhymes, its songs will live on.
To triumph, I will tread the paths of sages
by limericks and sonnets, I'll grow strong!
And even though I'll die, I'll live for ages!
In words, through form, promise I will live on!
