I sat next to a girl named Sherry
In my poetry class—seems nice enough
But I began to wonder why girls are named Sherry
And not Whiskey, Port, Vermouth, Scotch, Pinot Grigio,
Etc.
I think there might be a singer named Chardonnay
But never one named Sauvignon-Blanc
The word Sherry comes from the Spanish place name spelled J-e-r-e-z
Which is pronounced "Herrreth" in España—
That's where Sherry comes from (the fortified wine,
Not the girl)
If you go to España, you'll find about a half dozen different
Types of Jerez
Some you'd probably like, some you probably wouldn't
I'll bet there are many girls named Sherry
Some I'd probably like, some I probably wouldn't
If I met a girl named
Champagne,
Or Tennessee Sipping Whiskey,
Or Irish Single Malt
It'd make a good first impression on me.
humorous it IS. :) i had a neighbor whose name sounded like Sherry but i think it was spelt differently. spelt, spelled; who cares? hey, come to think of it (though it was over fifty years ago, i think i had TWO neighbors named 'sherry'..........or whatever. BTW, i MUST ask: did you ever taste Sherry? don't dem spaniards know how to pronounce! ? bri ;) i guess i'll send to MyPoemList. then i'll know where to find it if i use it for a showcase; it IS the correct length, after all.
