I was born in a bank - - my mother went there and made a deposit

J. A. Happ

James Anthony was born this day
in nineteen eighty-two.
Let's all give him a birthday wish;
it's what we ought to do.

It seems to me, though, think of it:
a birthday wish is sappy.
Yes, that's so lame; with his last name,
his birthday's always Happy!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
James Anthony Happ, a pitcher for the New York Yankees, was brought in as a relief pitcher in today's game with the Houston Astros. He got to pitch on his thirty-seventh birthday!

At the time of this writing, the bottom of the third inning is just starting, and the Astros lead 3-1, but Happ did not give up any of those three runs.

If the Astros win today, they will play the Washington Nationals in the World Series. If the Yankees win, they will play the Astros again tomorrow. Winner of that game moves on; loser is finished for the year.

The Houston Astros won the game 6-4 on a walk-off home run by José Altuve in the bottom of the ninth inning, so they will host the Nationals in game one of the World Series on Tuesday.
