John Robert Poem by Donald R Wolff JR

John Robert

Little John Robert was born into the world today.
He did not have long, 'I heard the doctor say.'
There was sadness in the room- Because the Lord would call young John home soon.
I heard his mother pray; Asking God for one more day.
She offered up her life- Just to have her son for that one night.

Our eyes could not hold back the heartfelt pain- As the family began to pray.
The doctor choked in his own tears- Because of John's Mother's prayers, that he could hear.
We all stayed there throughout the night; As Young, John Robert fought to keep his life.
Again, I heard his mother pray- Dear lord, just give me one more day.
Please let my baby live- And for you my life I'll give.

Her doctor came in the following day to say; 'Sometimes life happens to us this way.'
He asked us to leave the room- Because the end time for John was coming soon.
Once more John's mother began to pray; As they took young John away.
Why did you let him die- We all could hear that chilling cry.
No more will I ever pray- To a God that I now hate.

Silently we all stood outside the room- Not knowing what we could do.
What words can a person say- That could bring comfort to so much pain.
In a tone so soft and sweet; With words of love we heard her weep.
Please take care of my dear son- Give my angel all my love.
And if you will do for me, 'I pray'- Bring me home to him someday.
How will I tell his father- Young John has passed away.
