Just Yourself Poem by D.N. Rebb

Just Yourself

Who has given you this mistrust?
Constructive trust
Is anything else left to discuss?
Choice over quantity
Life is more than just proper balance
Living in some chintzy palace
Competing for social status
Making sure you're mighty

This role you play is overkill
So have it killed
Before character is even built
Alone, you must descend
And not philander like a drunkard
Flapping his sass like a young bird
As it is time to keep your word
If you were a true friend

Raise your right hand and make a pledge
No broken pledge
One that brings people to the edge
Have willing ears gone deaf?
Label only those who lack respect
Do not let their judgement reflect
Flak, you do not need to accept
Why not be just yourself
