Keep On Keeping On Poem by Barry Middleton

Keep On Keeping On

one step forward and two steps back
that's just the way that it is
I pop the top on my favorite brew
just to find that it's lost its fizz

at the top of the hill I took a hard spill
and slid all the way to the bottom
I searched and searched for my inner child
and then I almost forgot him

damned if I do and damned if I don't
I don't have the Midas touch
the gold that I found was elusive as love
and did not amount to much

still I slip and I slide and I roll with the tide
I'll swim until I reach the shore
perhaps round the bend I'll try once again
just to see what life has in store

I also like the rhythm of this one Barry...it should be a song! I'll try once again...right there with you! :)

Thanks Pamela. We gotta keep trying. Never give up. Nelson Mandela is and inspiration for that thought.

Love the rhythm and rhyme of this one, Barry. It almost urges you on up that proverbial hill!

Thanks Marianne. In was trying for humor and profundity at the same time. Also I love the Nelson Mandela quote that I found to illustrate my poem.
