Keeping Sanity Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Keeping Sanity

It should be no one's dream,
To live to have the freedom...
Of being ignorant and thoughtless.
With a doing of this given,
Authority and permission.
As if this reflects,
A greatness expected...
Shown respect and allegiance.
Even those elected to represent,
What had at one time...
Was known not to question.
But today,
As confusion, turmoil and division...
Continues on this path taken.
Few are left to question or wonder why,
What is presented to represent...
Ideals to uphold as high as possible.
Requires prescribed medication.
Or homegrown weed to remain and stay,
Patriotic!
Just to pretend a keeping of their sanity!
