I take Kentucky wherever I go
Through the rain and through the snow,
And whenever I'm in a different land
I am still holding Kentucky's hand.
I was born in the bluegrass state
God almighty decided for that to be my fate,
So, wherever that I might ever go or stroll
Kentucky, is always in my soul.
To my left are the hills and the trees
Where God blows through with a breeze
To my right is the mighty Ohio river
Life it does most certainly deliver.
I talk proudly about Kentucky wherever I might be
Anywhere across the bluegrass or across the sea,
Whenever from home I do depart
Kentucky, is still in my heart.
Kentucky is also always in my ear
From the sounds and music I constantly hear,
And when I detect a tantalizing accent
I then know a Kentucky woman is present.
When God decides it's my time to die
My spirit will then be lifted up in the blue, blue sky
And from there I will always be looking down
Upon my favorite Kentucky town.
