Knowing The Human Customs (By St. Thiruvalluvar)

211.The rain continues its seasonal duty for no recompense.
What does the world do it in return?
212.The purpose of all the wealth hard earned
is to render help to the worthy and deserving.
213.Giving succor to the worthy surpasses
all other actions in this earth and the heaven above.
214.He lives, who knows the worldly customs of helping others.
The rest will have their places among the dead.
215.The wealth of the wise, who live by the human customs
Is like the tank full of water useful to all.
216.The wealth owned by a liberal-hearted man
likens the fruit-bearing tree in the midst of a hamlet.
217.wealth accrues to a good Samaritan likens a tree
which cures the ills with all its parts.
218.The duty conscious wise wear not of helping
even though their resources of wealth fail.
219.The grief of a benefactor for his inability to help
is his real poverty.
220.If beneficence brings loss to anyone, he must be ready
even to sell himself and tackle that situation.
