Lament Poem by Karina Olegario

Lament

The pink dolphin heard the legend
Of the sorrow now painted on its face.

Under the moon and the sun it plowed through the distance;
Echoes between the lovers.

The river shivered;
Undisturbed by the mermaid's torment.

Heavens parted the darkness;
Thirst engulfed the heart of the rain forest.

The pink dolphin caressed
Its final breaths.

The pink dolphin awoke
To the whispers of the promised treasure.

It scrubbed its face and blinked
Under the light of the new firmament;
It clapped, danced, and sang to the mermaid's rapture;
Its heart glistened free; full in the rising river.

The moon bathed its shadow;
Arousing the sun of the jungle.

The lovers feasted in blissful delirium;
Able to now love; undisturbed.
