তুমি এক আছো - Language; Bengali
তোমাকে নিয়ে চেয়েছিলাম ঘুরতে -
অনেক অনেক শহরে,
অনেক পাহাড়ে, অনেক নদীর ধারে,
অনেক সমুদ্রের পারে!
হলো না, তুমি সরে গেলে দূরে -
অনেক দূরে,
যেখানে আমি পারলাম না পৌছুতে!
আবার এলাম সেখানে,
যাত্রা শুরু হয়েছিল যেখানে!
এসে দেখি ফিরে,
তুমি তো যাওনি সরে,
আছো আমার অপেক্ষাতে, ,
কেন পাইনি তোমায় দেখতে!
চলো সখী, আবার শুরু করি সেই যাত্রা,
সেই নবীন আশা, সেই ভালোবাসা,
তুমি, আমি, পথ,
সব যেন যায় হয়ে একাকার,
বছরগুলো যেন কিছুই নয়,
তুমি এক আছো, কিছু পালটায়নি,
জীবনটা একেবারে বৃথা নয়!

Hi Malabika, Like you, I too am bilingual. I write in Malayalam as well. My first published book is a collection of my poems in Malayalam. And I too do not find it easy to translate my Malayalam poems into English or vice versa. Tthough I do try translations of poems by other poets. I do believe that it is poem that decides whether it takes birth in Malayalam or English.
True. Some days I feel like writing in Bengali, perhaps the topic suits the lyrical language. Some other days, it's just English I get inspired to write in! But, I have to say, it's wonderful being a bilingual! We enjoy the best in both literature!
