Last Domino Poem by Barbara Nixon

Last Domino

Rating: 5.0

Reliving old memories
movie reel in constant loop
drowns the thundering silence
screaming through the walls,
shadow person
flashbacks of younger days
parade to a fanfare
of familiar lost voices,
fleeting smile
remembering
golden years,
when did the poison
creep under the door,
after the funeral?
Did it carry on the wind
from the depths
of the freshly dug graves
sensing a victim
to the dreaded fear.
Loneliness
silent epidemic
soul deep emptiness
the faceless forgotten
tick tock, tick tock
time just a beat
of the clock
solitary companion
minutes merge with days
no light, no darkness
nothingness,
waiting
for the last domino
to fall.

Pack full of foreboding and the tics talking. Sorry for your troubles and loss. Hope you don't mind, but I'd consider dropping the last line. Not only does it leave the last domino either standing or not placed (glimpse of hope) , or it stands, or it falls. It also bookends your piece quite tightly.
