Last Night Poem by Zotena Moses

Last Night

Last night, like a swift serpent
he came in my room
He was not white nor dark
He was not tall nor short
He whispered in my left ear
'I will take you away tonight
I will silence your fears tonight
I will take away your weaknesses,
Your pains, your darkness
Get your house together for tonight
I will minus you'.

How can I die
When men have not rehearsed my song
How can I be blind when my light
has not yet shone
I will be immortalized among men
My voice will preach the tidings
of peace
My honor starts on earth till my day comes
O death get behind me.
