Last Stop Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Last Stop

Rating: 5.0

A door
got on the train

sat beside me
by the window

near
the dining area.

“Where are you
Going? ”

I asked politely
making conversation.

“Nowhere...fast! ”
it snapped

closing itself
off

from further
questionings.

“I’m going Somewhere! ”
I told him
(apropos of nothing)

even though
he wasn’t listening.

“But a Somewhere
I don’t know

...as yet! ”

I fall asleep
fitfully

dreaming of
nothing

(in particular) .

When I awoke
the door was gone.

Got off
at the last stop

bar one.

I continued
continuing on

to the final
stop.
