Last Wolf Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Last Wolf

(The last wolf in England was killed in the South Fells
in Cumbria,1496, by John Harrington, who vowed to
clear his estate of wolves) .

Last wolf
Runs chased by horsemen
On and on
Between towering trees
Desperate to escape.

Hunting dogs bark
Scent of wolf urging them on
Followed by mounted men
Wanting the prize of the last wolf's pelt.

Shot by a crossbow
Wolf stumbles and falls
Dogs rush in to kill
Last wolf in England is dead.
