Le Cinema.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Le Cinema.(Translation) .

Rating: 5.0

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The poem starts logically enough. The Americans make spectacular movies, with beautiful surroundings of towns, lakes and trees. The other night they went to 'a realistic, pitiless film'. The audience cried for more. But afterwards they felt they had risked everything
The next morning they they were aboard a Russian steamer, trying to find their sea-legs. Ashore there were many hardened criminals, fields underwater, faces lit by summer lightning. Thus the last two stanzas are more obscure than the first two.
