Left Untitled For The Moment Poem by Perdita Young (Hanna Wang)

Left Untitled For The Moment

What is the distance between
A role model and a poor lesson?
It's calculable, in my view, at times,
By money, or, by degrees of shame.

The amount is not so sharply felt
Until it's publicized or compared.
Numbers do tell tales — of value:
How much one is worth, me and you.

"Little is better than nothing" gives no relief,
For me, zero would have been better
Than the¥240, a sum set for simpleton,
An implied degradation, a tasteless reward.

The posts, the titles, labels of goods,
The hundreds, the thousands, the dirty deals.
The faces, the demigods, the blue bloods,
Honored and adored, as money's agents.

July the 6th,2009.
