Life Story Of The Giant Panda Poem by Perdita Young (Hanna Wang)

The Giant Panda comes from China's "Land
of Plenty" named Chengtu, its hometown.
And its species has existed as long as Time,
since the Primal Chaos, when dinosaurs lived.
It survived the series of Ice-Age calamities
when Nature cruelly erased many species.

Though indomitable, pandas hated to compete,
so they retreated on and on, to the depth of forest.
A magic land it proved to be, nurturing wondrous life——
whether it be birds, monkeys, or beauties, or poets.

There pandas enjoyed life in a bliss of freedom,
secluded they lived, to the world ‘twas unknown.
But the marvels of nature are hard to hide, after all,
eventually local people with delight them found.

The black-and-white Panda is typical of Chinese
Painting, and like a star it outshines every thing.
Their naïve eyes look so friendly and so amicable,
and the black rings resemble the Yin-Yang Symbol:
Equilibrium mystic, depicted by the Book of Changes.

A born ambassador, Panda has been sent abroad
on mission, to spread seeds of friendly harmony.
It did excellent work, and won abundant glory,
and it even caused a sensation in the Hollywood.

The Hermit of the Groves now lives downtown,
and looks happy and healthy, and well at ease.
Let's hope that Man and Nature can go on and on,
and each to each kept in good harmony to eternity.
