Leonardo And Michelangelo Poem by gershon hepner

Leonardo And Michelangelo

Some people say the Mona Lisa is
the greatest painting any man could paint,
but Michelangelo believed that his
were even greater. Since he was no saint
his frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine
show naked bodies of the bible's heroes,
that bigots, who considered them too pristine,
touched up with fig leaves hiding signs of eros.
'Last Judgment' which he painted on the wall
appeared for centuries to be too dingy,
a fault that men have never found at all
in any work of Leonard from Da Vinci
who made the greatest efforts to discover
a way for men to leave the earth and fly
and never painted how the wicked suffer,
tormented by the devil when they die.
