Levitate With Me Awhile? Poem by Mark Heathcote

Levitate With Me Awhile?

As we sleep, levitate with me awhile?
Show me there are beliefs
without superstition or question.
That there are silk roads still to be found
that steers through flower-laden valleys
above mountain passes of cloud.

Show me shadows that blaze into fire
with the lifeblood of a Fire Horse
but doesn't desire to jettison her spouse
set his house on fire.
Love, I embrace the rebellious
but like you, not the irresponsible and reckless.

I don't ask for obedience
Or a fire-breathing dragon,
I don't yearn for the submissive, either.
Ascend to the heavens, the ether with me
not as a guide or a woman enslaved
but as my equal and only true friend.
