Life Has No Meaning Other Than The Meaning That We Provide It Poem by Daya Nandan

Life Has No Meaning Other Than The Meaning That We Provide It

Life in the long run is devoid of meaning,
For a lifetime is too short before nature starts cleaning,
Mankind will eventually face the inevitability of death,
Just as every living thing dies on the day of its last breath,

Nature has no design and there is no true reason to exist,
And ageing will eventually trap us within death's mist,
To dust all of us will finally turn to at the end of it all,
Even the mightiest galaxies and black holes will ultimately fall,

What significance would your life hold at the end of the universe,
When even black holes and stars will succumb to death's curse,
Only void remains at the end, not a trace of existence,
The universe as we know it will fade without any resistance,

Humans are the only creatures with knowledge of their death,
Understanding the inevitability of the day of their last breath,
Though some seek meaning in the promises of religions and belief,
Faith in the promise of an afterlife giving their hearts relief,

Life has no meaning other than the meaning that we provide it,
And that is certain as much as most would hate to admit,
So use this window of life while your body and mind lives,
And embrace the wonders of the world that our existence gives.

The meaning of life. One of the most poetic, most philosophical questions. It is really hard to predict the future. It is an amazing game to do so and it may be very intriguing and even enchanting to believe in one's own predictions. The only fact about the future is that we do not know. Even what will happen ten minutes from now, we cannot predict. So, somehow I think you are very right to say in your last stanza: We are living in a truly amazing world, an amazing universe. Let's give meaning to the now. The question remains how to give the meaning to the now. So many people search in blind faith, others in pleasure. I believe that the most direct way to a meaningful life is to enjoy the sweet satisfaction of selfless service, sharing our talents and somehow try to get a bit closer to the ideal of unconditional love.
