ανέμοι την ταράζουν∙
με κύματα την στόλισαν,
μ'αφρούς και αναστεναγμούς!

τα όρη, τ'άγρια βουνά,
τη φύση να γνωρίσει!
Τον φόβο, την λύπη, την χαρά,
μ'αγάπη να γεμίσει,
καρδιές ανθρώπων ταπεινών,
καρδιές ανθρώπων ξένων∙
Καρδιές ανθρώπων π'αγαπούν,
καρδιές ανθρώπων που ξεχνούν!
Είν΄η ζωή μια θάλασσα,
με όψη, ήρεμης σιγής∙
τον ήλιο σαν καλεί,
την όψη αυτή θα δεις!
Είν'η ζωή μια θάλασσα,
με χρυσαφένια λόγια!
Σημάδια και όνειρα γεννούν ∙
πετράδια κόκκινα σκορπούν,
σε κήπους με λουλούδια,
σ'όχθες μ'αγνά τραγούδια!
Είν'η ζωή μια θάλασσα,
μηνύματα σου φέρνει!
Τις πίκρες, τους αναστεναγμούς
μακριά ξανά τους παίρνει!
Κι αν πόνεσες, κι αν δάκρυσες,
αυτή θα σε στολίσει
με δροσερό, με γάργαρο νερό,
Ζωή θα σου χαρίσει!
