Life Leaves Old Joys Behind Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Life Leaves Old Joys Behind

Rating: 5.0

Way back a child I had many a joys
As wonders, wandering in wanton worlds,
The joys jostling— trinkets with odd toys,
Happier felt I than free-flying birds.

Came youth, what changed were only but the toys,
Rewards of life innocent nigh no more,
And teenage muse knocking at open door,
Boys chased girls, and girls felt giggly at boys.

My earthen pot in a kiln to ripen,
Realities of life reeling so keen,
Happiness of ere failed to enliven,
And nudged was I to kneel, to look within.

In fond hope more fulfilling life to find,
Life is to leave blasé ecstasies behind.

This is a wonderful sonnet with vivid imagery! I find a great rhythm and rhyme....a perfect Shakespearan sonnet with the rhyme scheme: Abab, cdcd, efef, gg! Infact, it's not so easy to compose a sonnet but sir you are doing it so easily! A very commendable work....a beautiful poem!

Yes, you are right, a sonnet is a beautiful verse form, 'Fourteen flying birds in formation' as I said in a sonnet elsewhere- a sonnet again in praise of sonnets. You might like to read. Thanks. .
