Life Or Fame? Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

Life Or Fame?

by Freeyad Ibrahim

The whole time our friend was busy to get fame
He spent the first half of his life
Trying to get fame under his name
Then after receiving the medal and achieving the goal
And for the second half of his life,
His main concern became to preserve
his gain and his position, and his fame
He missed his family and neglected them
Who the attention and care of the man much deserve
Until his head turned gray,
Grayness became his nightmare
When he saw himself, a fire erupted in his hair
He gasped and stayed for a moment,
looking at his appearance in his own mirror
He took a long, warm sigh and moved his tongue
I'm the one who spent my years for the only goal
Then I forgot everything but to maintain the high honor
Sacrificing my body and soul
How can I get the sweet soft words of Baba
of my children back?
Who turns the gray hairs of my wife into black?

Have I traded my kostly life for kostless victory and fame?
