The Double Seventh Day
Two stars appear in the dim sky,
When lovers gaze, admire in delight:
The time is short, dearer than gold-
One yearly parting, bestowed one night.
Magpies fly in flocks, from the skyline,
Sympathizing with th' Stars pining,
Linked into a bridge of feathers fine,
Over the galaxy River of sigh.
Bliss is the moment's rendez-vous,
Love like torrents pours in light'ning;
With affections undying and true,
They fear not the distance apart.
The mortal world celebrate in cheers,
And lovers make the vow on this Day:
That each to each they'd constant stay
like Altair and Vega, thru the years.

May the Moon be still and as bright.

'May the moon be still and as bright', tells me of the desire of the lovers to keep the magic of the moment locked, as time stands still. I don't understand the meaning of the Magpies in the poem?
Dear Adrian, I love your interpretation about the line and really appreciate your kindness. MAGPIES are symbols of happiness and good luck in Chinese culture. They seem to be very lively and very enthusiastic, and appear in folklore, fairy tales, operas and stories.
