There are many ways to write a poem.
Conscious ways. Then there is the unconscious.
And feeling, writing as feeling, feelings dictating
meaning to your hand as you write—writing by feeling,
intuition, feeling one's way forward, ahead, the poem being
written in this way—somewhat akin to Tender Buttons
as written by Gertrude Stein, her "automatic writing" style.
The present poem is an example of the conscious way
though you have not seen the revisions, and so far,
as of right this moment, I am working on my tenth (10th) .
At times, we can risk our lives based upon our choices—
mine somewhat rash at times, impulsive—conscious,
unconscious and otherwise. Whichever way it works,
it amounts to the same thing in the end—we choose one
thing over another, this poem or that one to write; one
eventually gets written. Right now, always, I choose life,
Life over Death. Life writing. Life always—despite the violence, terror and stupidity of the police, who have no conscience,
experience no shame. The determination to live—this the choice always.
