Life's Battle

The battle for your soul will never end,
Not till the moment after you have died;
With many sins and vices yet to mend
Before you die, that cannot be denied;
The world and flesh and devil do their worst
To draw you in, and damn you with despair;
Life's barren desert fills you with a thirst
For heaven; how you long for glory there!

You long for glory and you long for rest
From trial on trial that make our living here;
Sorrow is heaped on sorrow for the best
And worst of men, and all have cause for fear.
Yet all the woes of human life shall cease,
And there shall be an everlasting peace.
