Light Or Right? Poem by Tony Cemaluk Egbuonu

Light Or Right?

If a convicted heinous criminal cried out
'Is this what I get for defending myself? '

Now imagine the innocent —
charged, convicted, imprisoned
before trial...
for being human.
For nature itself.

When the guilty calls it persecution,
what do we call it when the innocent suffers?

Light? Right?
Or something far heavier than both?
