Lip Service Poem by Emmanuel Joseph Olumakiss

Lip Service

Why recite my name like the Hebrew gods, the entire 365 days
Yet you've refused to hold me dear to your heart
Severally you've cherished me in your lips
Singing unforgettable melodies
To the high heaven
Tying my spirit all to yourself
Making my head swell all day
Even in public places
You've aroused my own feelings
Into keeping numerous promises
Among all the things you've done in my presence
My absence you've proven it not.
