Listening Poem by Torence Lavender

Listening

Listening
The rhythmic crash of the water against my feet.
The cold rush willing all sensations to come alive
I close my eyes and soak in my world that surrounds me.
Like it is my teacher, and I its student.

A leaf whispers into the water and brings ripples that chime across the surface. Letting everyone know it's there.
I listen to the different families
The toads croak and join together with a gentle splash in the water.
The crickets strumming a lullaby for their young.
The snap of a tree branch.
Silence.
Listening
For the danger that has entered our solitude.
