Little Sunflower - Poem by Eric Leong

I am nothing but a sunflower in a bed of garden that covers the fields of this world,
The difference from other flowers is I love to sing, dance, laugh and swirl,
I am the flower that stands tall and high above the rest to stay close to the Sun,
Without Him what more do I have to live for but none,

I shine the brightest of all the others that stands beside me,
A glowing sunflower is what everyone’s head turn to see,
A seed thrown into the ground is where my breath of life comes from,
I grow and stand strong through the violent wind and deadly storm,

But all I am is a little yellow bright sunflower,
No masks, no lies, no deceit, no cover,
I am just a little sunflower that is trying to break out from this rotting garden,
To explore the world and live more of life better than the other thousand,

What do I have more to offer than a bright sunny day?
Nothing words can describe nor the mouth can say,
A rose may obtain beauty from its blood red color in the human eye,
But does it not prick those that touches it with its thorns and causes them to die?

I am a content yellow sunflower in the green fields lying beneath my Friend, the Sun,
I am that small boiling emotion that touched your heart and is where it all begun,
I am that little courage, that little hope, that little faith in life that you have been searching for,
My little evil plan to leave this place is to sit on the cool breeze of summer, ready to soar,
This is all my heart’s desire, my light at the end of the tunnel; this is it, nothing more,

I tell myself: hold on to that pounding heartbeat that is slowing fading away,
For with these other flowers, NO, I am not here to stay,
I hope that you will always remember this little yellow bright sunflower,
For my words will always be as light and gentle as a white floating feather,
But will be looked upon and be proud off like a giant monumental tower,
And these words of mine will last a hundred decades to come, maybe forever.
