Long Friends No More Poem by Rage Allay

Long Friends No More

Rating: 5.0

You and I have long been friends
We hoped to stay that way until the end.
Our jobs may have kept us apart
But our bond had refused to depart.
Our planned meetings were eagerly anticipated
The months, days and nights, were relentlessly counted.
And then, there you were as confident as can be
Smiling and casting a special look just for me.
We welcomed each other with a warm embrace,
Setting off our hearts throbbing as in a race.
Our eyes would look, like, deep into our souls
As we listened intently to our thrills and woes.
We didn't want to miss a single word
Our nodding heads simply signaled that we understood.

It was this one particular meeting when fate made a twist and turn.
None of us expected what we were about to learn.
We were sad to find out that both of our hearts have been badly broken
Betrayed and abandoned by our loved ones we have talked about so often.
We cried and shared our darkest feelings of frustration, anger, and pain;
We agreed that the emptiness and loss felt will forever in our hearts remain.
Gently, you pulled me closer with one arm around my shoulder
You clutched my hand and assured me that soon we will feel better.
With suspended breath, our eyes met as we faced each other up close
Then, for no apparent reason, who knows?
We kissed, and kissed gingerly, and kissed almost unceasingly.
We were oblivious of the twist and too dumbfounded at our pleasant discovery.
You and I may have traveled apart and far too long
But the tie between us was, after all, a true love all along.
