Looking For Something Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Looking For Something

I'm looking for something.
Don't know what it is yet.
Or know what to expect.
But it's gotta be better than today's mess.

I am looking for something.
Something I know is fresh.
Something extraordinary.
That brings a pep to my slowing steps.

Too many are feeding on evil.
Quick and ready to snack on it.
With a meanness to demean.
And backbite for the excitement.

Too many invest in evil.
And deposit their despair.
Done to do in public.
Wanting their sorrows to be shared.

I am looking for something.
Genuine and rare.
A sincerity with it shown.

I am looking for something.
To surprise and qualify.
It's above the gloom.
And above bold odors.
Smelled everywhere to dump it pooped.

I'm looking for something.
Much better than today's mess.
Much better than what's accepted.
And it has to be fresh.
Unexpected.
That allows me not to watch,
Where I place my steps.
Or hold my breath when done.
