Lost Music Poem by Barry Middleton

Lost Music

Rating: 5.0

I never heard a song till you
came down to lay with me
and all of life I thought was mute,
the flowers in the park
began to tremble in the dark
and tune themselves for me.

I never thought that words had breath
but those you spoke to me
still linger in my memory
and nightly breathe a sigh
which says that love should never die.

I never knew what silence was
till silent in my room
I reached for you and found you gone
and lost your haunting tune.

I feel the deep loss and beauty of this love poem especially the last verse It strikes a cord. It's the human condition all of us at some stage can relate to loss Loss of a loved one, a lover or a sense of the alive presence which some call God Thank you Barry for this I have a poem on ph Living Ghost which expresses the sudden withdrawal of a lover (very painful) which I experienced last year if you care to read it sometime

Thanks Norah. Yes, I wrote this about 30 years ago and I'm still not over it.
