Love And Exchange Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Love And Exchange

I helped you out but you didn't help me out
Love is a towel and you wouldn't help me wipe my face
I definitely got the short end of this deal
There is no recourse to address the shabby way people treat one another

You can love anything and anyone no matter how dangerous
The amount of self-harm it can and will inflict
But human mercenary nature demands this set up as a transaction
Looking for a give and take not actions received without thanks

The demands placed by usury candidates for misogyny positions
Offices held by those who execute elaborate con jobs upon the heart
And then act like there should be no bad feeling because of this

Love feels good for a minute or two while exchange gives you a more permanent good feeling
Today each got his rightful share and we are a union in accord
That won't hold as reciprocity diminishes
The self limits the role of gratitude
