Love Began As I Opened My Eyes Poem by Mohammad Younus

Love Began As I Opened My Eyes

Love began as I opened my eyes
when a newborn baby
smiles and kisses cooled my heart
in the newfound family.
The near and dear rushed forward
with immeasurable joy to receive
the newborn, with honeyed hugs
and swings in arms,
to make me smile and be proactive.
In the newline, I got the first slap
on my tender cheeks,
disconnecting me from the old world
whose remembrance still lingered.
Then, a fearless babe began sucking
milk leaping from the spring, a fountain.
Soon, the memories of old faded away
like a roaring river disappearing
into the calm sea.
And there, the sun, moon, and stars
appeared, taking away my heart and soul.
My love, I realized, is like a running stream.
