Love In Present Tense Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Love In Present Tense

I looked at the one I love directly in the face
And saw nothing that needed to be described by flowery language
For flowery language is nothing more than a hindrance to meaning

Courtship comes in a crossword puzzle form
Three across and I don't like you
Four down and I desire you immensely

I looked at the one I love directly in the face
And I felt more than saw the ease of a long time love
Familiarity is the truth I know

What was I looking for again?
People change as does the source of our inspiration
We move in cycles of mid life crisis and satisfied domesticity

I looked at the one I love directly in the face
And was powerless to predict anything
It's better not to question a good thing
