Love In Wintertime. Poem by sharon Genade

Love In Wintertime.

I loved you in the Wintertime,
It must have been the crispness of frost,
Or the scent of woodsmoke unfurling in the breath of frozen wind,
Perhaps it was the mood of melancholy, the darkness of day, or the shortness of light,
It suited us just fine, this frigidness of yearning for warmth, radiance,
The stillness and solitude of trees with no leaves,
Shed and unwanted, lilting, decaying in the numb earth, mulching under our feet,
The crunch of ice and snow, the fragility of it all, us, sheltering,
We stood apart……………………………………………………miles apart, but so close,
Wisps of fog and temper from shortness of breath,
Our love was hollow and long, seasonal and dour,
We did not make it work, it was sleeping, hibernating, resting.
That's why I loved you more in the wintertime.
